Bookshare.org

This website is an ebook library that is created to also tackle the barriers of dyslexic people to become more aware of the basic reading skills. Studies suggest that that if more students completed their school years with a basic reading level, it can reduce the poverty level in any society. Thus, Bookshare.org was designed to reach out to all people with reading disability.

This website is funded by a non – profit organization called, Benetech. As their slogan reads, “Pioneering software for social good” the founder of this company not only financially supports this website but it also created software for this very purpose; to help struggling readers across the prism. As being an engineer student at a tech school, his desire was to develop a reading tool for the blind. Consequently, his dream became reality which one of the significant aspect of this website. Users can read more information about this amazing story in the “About” button at the bottom of the homepage.

This website has the widest variety of ebooks in the world. When users become members of this website, they can access 949,248 titles of ebooks. This collection even contains books in more than 30 languages. More importantly, this library is supported by more than 800 publishers all over the world. Because this website is created for people with known reading disability, it is required for members to provide proof of their disability from recognized professionals.

Because the website is funded by a non – profit organization, the cost for membership is free for students who are certified as “print disability” students. For non – students there is a puny amount for yearly memberships. The affordable prize will enable students to access books from this library to help them with their reading skills.

The creative mind of this pioneering founder to seek this type of effective reading technologies can positively change livelihoods in any society. Citizens will become productive citizens contributing to the society. With the statistics depicted in the website about people with reading barriers, more websites should be created to tackle this social issue.

Farewell Reflection

Dr. Rivera and Classmates,

Our course has come to an end, but the strategies and techniques learned from this course has just started. There are many new things learned from this course that will help me as a teacher. Even though I was challenged from the beginning of this course until the end I still learned a lot. I found out that there is nothing that is impossible, all we have to do is try our best and we can make it possible. Time was a challenge when taking this course, but I tried my best to make time for this class. During the Christmas break, I needed time for my family and this course, luckily I was able to make time for both my family and this course.

Fellow classmates, I want to thank you all for the positive feedbacks and your help during this course. I want us to continue like this during this journey of working on our Masters. Your feedbacks and supports were very helpful and enables me to overcome the challenges of our assignments and works. Once again, thank you all.

I want to thank you Dr. Rivera for everything I learned from this course. You were very patient with us and always answers our questions when we needed your help. Thank you for the commitment you made for us during our time together in this course.

It takes a lot of time to go through many effective literacy websites to choose to talk about but all those websites are worth it because I get to learn about many websites that can help me develop more interesting lessons. I now can use the websites to get worksheets, tutorial videos and many interesting resources. I have also learned some internet tools I can use to deliver my lesson and already have an account on talentlms I can use especially during this pandemic and will gladly share it with my colleagues for the better of our student’s learning skills. I also learned how to develop a lesson plan on using google earth. Google Earth is a great tool that can help student’s more familiar with their surroundings.

To conclude, it was nice working with my classmates because I also learned a lot from them by sharing ideas together and getting help from them. I would also like to give a big thanks to my professor Dr. Rivera for all the helpful things she taught me. Those challenging tasks, helpful strategies, feedback, and suggestions surely enhance my learning skills and will surely enhance my teaching skills. You taught, not just what ought to be taught, but also what you thought we needed to learn. Thanks for everything, farewell.

Farewell Reflection

This Fall Intersession 2020 course, ED638-41 Teaching with Internet, is one hardest session I encountered. I didn't expect that it would be challenging. However, I am thankful and grateful to my colleagues (classmates) and my instructor for all the encouragement words. From the words of encouragements, I once thought to myself that why others could accomplish the course, and why I. Thank you instructor Dr. Rivera can’t and colleagues, it's my pleasure to learn from you. I learned so much from all the assignments and from the posts that each of you posted.

Furthermore, I am grateful and thankful for this course because it taught me many things. I learned many new different things from this course. I learned about the possible Internet Tools that I could use, especially during this pandemic. I could use them by creating classes, continuing to keep in touch with them, and helping them with their learning. For the Effective Literacy Websites, I am thankful for these sources because I would be able to use and share them with my colleagues at work. We would be able to use them to find different activities to use in our classrooms. Effective Literacy Websites are helpful for our English Learners. Inkless Tales- http://www.inklesstales.com/readers/ is my effective literacy #7. This website created by Elizabeth Williams Bushey. This is a great useful literacy website that teachers, parents, and students could use. It consists of poems, different kind of stories, and games. Furthermore, the activities on this website are owned by Elizabeth Williams Bushey.

As a classroom teacher for lower grade, I found this website useful for me. The stories, poems, and games, I believe my students will enjoy it because the students can watch and read along. This website would help the students with their listening and speaking skills, reading and writing skills. For example, the story of Lady Bug, click on the link, http://www.inklesstales.com/ladybug.html, to see the story. This story is a good short story for kids. The children could read along the story following the subtitles that shown. So, Inkless Tales is a wonderful website for younger children.

Lastly, I believe Inkless Tale is going to be a useful source for teachers and parents. They could use the activities on the website to help their children with their reading and writing skills. This website aimed to help children with their literacy skills. In an early age, the children will love to read and write. Therefore, if you want to learn more about Inkless Tale, please visit the website by clicking on the link, http://www.inklesstales.com/readers/.

Bookopolis

https://mayorofbookopolis.files.wordpress.com/2015/08/view-book-review-on-bookopolis.png

According to this website https://www.bookopolis.com/#/, Bookopolis is a kid-friendly social network and book discovery tool designed to ignite a love of reading in elementary and middle school students. This is a free website and also a helpful website for both teachers and students.  Both teachers and students can create and account for this website. Teachers can create this website to get more interesting and helpful strategies to improve their teaching and also make their lesson interesting and motivating. Teachers can view the dashboard to view video tutorials to help their lesson be more engaging to the students.

This site is also available for parents so they can also help with their reading skills. This website also provides reading materials that are available for all the grade levels. Students can also search any kind of book they want to read. There are many activities students can do in the Bookopolis to improve their reading skills and also improve their love of reading. Students can create their own virtual bookshelves by logging the books they have already read and they can also earn points from the collections they have. Students can also share with their classmates or friends the book they have read or recommend books to friends. This is an interesting website because students can discover many new books to read to improve their reading skills.  Students can also practice persuasive writing, comprehension, and typing skills by completing review, reports, and reading logs online.

This is also a great website for teachers and parents because they can track or see where students are with their independent reading. I recommend that teachers and parents should refer to this website to enhance the children’s literacy skills. Bookopolis is a great site for students to connect to readers and explore books they’ve already read or may like to read. This website also provides a fun games section where students can engage in word games, trivia and puzzles. I believe that this website can easily improve our student’s literacy skills in a fast way.

Farewell reflection

For most, let me thank our heavenly father for giving us his blessings on everything.  I also want to thank Dr. Rivera for her kindness and supportive through this course.  I also want to thank my fellow classmates for all the positive feedbacks on our assignments.  I know that we all encounter challenges and difficulties in this course, but we always stand on our two legs to move forward.  I am thankful to Dr. Rivera for showing me that we have literacy websites that we can use in helping our students.

The challenges that I encounter was during the Christmas break because I am busy with the family activities.  I started by stacking off because of the activities that took place in December, especially the break.  I thought that having the break would help me but it took away most of my time making me struggle along the way.  After missing the first 3 days of the assignments, I tried my best to meet all the deadlines to catch up with the assignments due dates.  I know that this course will be a challenge but I took pride in accomplishing the challenges and the hardships. The reason that I push myself because learning new skill and strategies will bring positive outcome to our students and will enhance our teaching skills.  Let us all try our best so we can graduate and stand high for this program.  Once again, a thousand thanks to Dr. Rivera for her commitment in helping us throughout this course. I am anxious and looking forward for our next class.

ABCya

One of the most well-known educational websites for bringing fun into learning to enjoy is www.ABCya.com. This website was founded by a schoolteacher in New Jersey in 2004. He created this site to make sure kids can navigate around the website with a positive environment, easy access, and nonviolence zone. Fortunately, he was also good with graphic designer that he planned out to set up this site and aligning it with educational lesson. He did not realize that some of the teachers in the school started to use his side without them knowing that he was the creator.

ABCya provides over 400 fun and educational games for grades PreK through 6. The activities are designed by educators and parents, who understand that kids learn better when they are having fun. This website is categorized by grade levels and subjects and under topics such as part of speech, pattern recognition, typing, multiplication and many more. Each game is provided under such grade level with the subject and given topic. It is free to explore and you can try to see how effective the games are.

Going through the website, they provided games such as word puzzle, spelling checker, building on vocabularies, identifying the part of speeches, and so on. The games are helpful for kids to learn more on identifying words and their meaning, the spelling of words and their part of speech. It is extremely useful for their reading skills as well as their writing skills to develop as they are having fun by playing the games on this website. Especially, when kids are having fun while learning, they comprehend it well. If you want to know more about the educational games, you can always go to the website link www.ABCya.com to find out more about it.

Roy the Zebra

Another effective literacy website that I want to share is Roy the Zebra. If you want to check out the site, you can click the link www.roythezebra.com. Roy the Zebra is a website for age 5-7 and for readers who are falling behind their reading level. This website is free to join. However, there is also website that is part of this website, but you pay monthly fee to be a member which is called Club Roy, the link is www.clubroy.com. Both websites have the same goal to help emergent readers to be successful readers as well as the ones who are behind their reading level.

Roy the Zebra has excited guided stories, lesson plans, games, and songs for your children. Everything is free but you need to sign up for the website to send you occasional updates via email. The stories on Roy the Zebra started of with an excitement beginning that will grasp the attention of children to focus more on the reading. It motivates children and make them want to learn more about reading and become successful readers. The games on the website are educational games that will make reading fun. They will not be aware that while they are having fun with the games, they are learning a lot.

Roy the Zebra is an excellent site for children, teachers, and parents. The resources that are available on the websites are free. There are also worksheets that you can go through and choose the types of worksheet you like the most. Or you think it fits what your lesson will be about. The worksheets can be used in however a teachers or parents plan on using it. It can be for leisure time, homework, classwork, or group work.

The songs are fun for the kids to sing along, to dance with the music, and learn at the same time. I bet this one is good for the kinesthetic learners and auditory learners. Roy the Zebra make sure the resources that it provided are core standards and they are appropriate for all types of learners. I would also recommend this website to parents and teachers to visit and sign up to gain more for the sake of our children literacy to be successful in the future.
