Storysnoops.com

With the respect and understanding that mothers are always diligent, creative, and passionate with whatever tasks they undertake, one would not be surprise to learn that they can also adapt their passions to utilize the modern technologies to extend their skills in the virtual world. A group of four Californian mothers did this very same concept and created this website because of their passion for reading. Storysnoops.com contains a library of children’s books that intended to target children at the age of 9 through 18 to develop and expand their interests in reading.

One of the significant features in this website is a Children Comic Books. With this feature, children can search for any comic books that they desire to read. With a huge collection of comic books that children can obtain from this significant feature, children can expand their own library or collection of this fun to read books.

In the Children Story Books, it features great tool that children can be very engaged in doing. This tool allows kids to personalize their own books. Parents and/or teachers can give the kids to perform with the well – known characters in stories they read or have their own names on the cover of the story books. Personlized Disney Frozen Story Book is just one of the sample books that are featured in this special tool.

Finally, one of the very special features that these special mothers created in this website is the Listen to Audio Books page. In this page children can obtain a free trial to listen to up to three books when they sign up for free in this very page. Furthermore, they can also obtain a premium library of books with more than 200,000 books along with more than 800 audio books.

The works of these mothers truly reflect the love they have for reading as well as their sincere concerns for their children. When children as well as parents utilize this tool, their interests and love toward reading will never be the same.

Effective Literacy Website #5

Story Online Summer Camp- https://www.youtube.com/user/StorylineOnline is my effective literacy website #5. This storyline online website is a free site with different story tellers. It has different story tellers who read the stories aloud. One of the readers once said, “We may not be able to surround a campfire, but still they tell each other stories.” This was created since kids may not be able to go out for summer camping. However, they could be able to visit the Storyline Online Summer Camp website.

Furthermore, if you’re child or children are in kindergarten to 4th grade, this is a helpful and useful website. This website could help students to improve their listening and speaking skills, reading, and writing skills. For example, if the teacher played one of the read aloud video, the students would use their listening skills to listen to the story, and use their speaking skills to answer comprehension questions or discuss the read aloud story. In reading and writing skills, the students could retell the story by write or draw the story, and read or explain their writing or drawing.

Therefore, I believe that Storyline Online website would a helpful website for teachers, homeschooler, parents, and students. It would more useful during this pandemic. Teacher, homeschooler, and parents could assign their children a story from the storyline online website to watch, and prepare an activity to do after they watch the read aloud story, such as retelling by writing or drawing, summarizing, and or answering comprehension questions. If you want to learn more about Storyline Online website, please visit or click the link https://www.youtube.com/user/StorylineOnline.

My fifth literacy website is Read to Me (https://www.readtomeintl.org/).   Read to Me international mission is to share the love and joy of reading aloud.  The goals are to ensure that every child reads every day for at least 10 minutes, model good read aloud techniques and promote reading aloud to a broader audience of stakeholders.

Read To Me International promotes reading aloud to children through:

  • Parent coaching programs at Hawai‘i’s schools, community sites, and correctional facilities
  • Presentations and workshops for parents, educators and other interested groups
  • Read alouds at schools and community gatherings
  • National-quality annual conferences
  • Support for parents of young children living in transitional and affordable housing

Read To Me International is a nonprofit organization incorporated in March 1996. It is a partnership reading program created by the Governor’s Council for Literacy and Lifelong Learning and the Rotary Club of Honolulu Sunrise. The Governor’s Council comprised leading members from the business, labor, education, faith-based and community sectors.  The message was simple, “Every child in Hawaii will be read to every day for ten minutes.”

Programs provided by the program are compose stories, Read, Revive, Restore, Readers Rallies, Read to me 10 minutes a day, and RTM 10 alumni programs.  The programs engage parents and students reading a-loud, to support children’s academic, social, and emotional growth.  All this helps families to bond through reading aloud interaction with the child.

This site has declared that it really improves readings, writings and communication skills. The Foundation is a nonprofit organization that relies entirely on gifs, grants and donations to fund Storyline and produce all of its videos.
Foundation create more Storyline Online videos and new content, so that teachers can read to millions more children every month. Each book includes supplemental curriculum developed by elementary educators, aiming to strengthen comprehension and verbal written skills for English language learners.

They have award-winning children’s literacy program in 2016 and in 20017. One of the interesting parts is that they have audio recording characters which are perfect for first learners. Students will love this site as it contains many learning activities along with creativity ideas.

Reading Is Fundamental is the literacy central website for children. It is a very productive website that provided many resources that develop reading comprehension and improve Reading Rate and Fluency. The website is www.rif.org. It was founded in 1966. Reading Is Fundamental collaborate with other 450 programs that encourage children’s literacy to develop. This site provides new books to children in the communities around the world. It also develops thousands of free digital resources for teachers.

The advantages about this site is the Lexile Reading level that is provided for each reading passage. The grade levels are also available with their Lexile levels. That is one thing I like about the website that shows the reading Lexile level for each reading passage. There are a lot of books that children can always go through and read. There are also reading comprehension questions that follow each reading to check for understanding the passages.

There is also an Independent Reading Center for the individual kid to read books. Instead of having only books at the center, there are also things that your child will enjoy like the work of arts, watch Read-Aloud videos, puzzles, and coloring a page under fun sections such as Animal, Nature, Art, Invention and Nature. The Reading Center can be monitor by parents or teacher. That is why for you to be part of Reading Is Fundamental, all you need to do is sign up and provided your information for free.  There is also a Literacy Tracker where parents and teachers can also monitor the students reading progression. You can set up an account just for you and your kids to monitor their reading consistently.

This website encourages parents, teachers, and children to expand the important of having a literate community. It provides all the resources for children to enjoy reading and parents involvement in participating in the progression of their kids reading. Teachers are also encouraged to create an account on this website to have their students monitor throughout the year(s). I would like to recommend educators and parents to visit the website and discovered the important of Literacy for our world. To learn more about this website, you know what to do click the link on the first paragraph.

Magic Blox

URL: https://magicblox.com/authors-publishers

In 2009, Magic Blox set out to make books more accessible, engaging, and fun by giving children a reading experience to get excited about, while at the same time, making it easier on parent's wallets.  With a large and growing collection of eBooks for kids 1 to 13 years old, your children get to enjoy new books all the time from award winning authors and publishers from around the world.  In addition to titles you are familiar with from traditional publishers, they also have the opportunity to discover new stories from authors they've never heard of, or try out new languages they've never seen. Use our online kid's book library as a resource to discover new books you've never seen, bring books with you on the road, or just find something fun to read without having to buy a book or leave the house. Our books come from authors & publishers all over the world, who upload new titles pretty much every day, and once we review and approve them to make sure they are safe and appropriate, we add them to our shelves for you to read.  You should feel good knowing that your monthly payments are used to pay the authors and publishers of the books you choose to read every month.

This website is an effective literacy website because it contains many different types of books that our children or students will want to read. In the website, children or students can choose the reading level that they want to start with or the reading level that matched their own reading levels. The books are categorized too and will be easy for students to search for a certain book they are looking for. The books in this websites contains many features like illustrations, music, photos, chapters, narrations, and sounds. This features will help students with the development of their literacy skills. The home page of this website looks very enticing to children and students of the age group 1-13 years of age. This website is not free, but the payment plan is not that much comparing to how this website will help students, teachers, and parents.
